Measuring for Your Order

How to Measure Your Windows for Curtains:

Before You Start:

Use a metal tape measure for accuracy and make a note of your measurements in centimetres (cms)

If you are redecorating your room, be mindful of the position of the curtain pole or track potentially being moved.

Measuring Curtain Width:

Pole or Track Width: Measure the total width of the pole or track, not the window itself.

If you don't have your pole or curtain track yet, measure the width of your window and add 30-40cm (15-20cm on each side). This total pole or track length is one of the measurements you will need to order your curtains.

Curtain Drop/Length:

Decide on the Curtain Length

Sill length: Curtains fall just above the windowsill.

Below sill: Curtains end 5-15 cm below the windowsill.

Full length: Curtains slightly touch the floor or hover 1-2 cm above it. Sometimes people (including us) like to have the fabric pooling or puddling on the floor for extra glam! If you like this look, add 10 - 20 cms of extra length.

Measure Curtain Drop:

For a Pole (unless you’re having eyelet curtains): Measure from the bottom of the curtain rings to your desired end point.

If you order Pinch Pleat or Pencil Pleat and you want the curtains to cover the pole at the top, rather than hang below it, then measure from the top of the pole.

For a Track: Measure from the top of the track to your desired length.

Drop (eyelet heading) Measure the distance from the top of the pole down to where you would like them to hang to. We recommend to 2cm above the floor (3/4cm if you have not yet had carpet fitted but intend to).

Eyelet Heading Information: Eyelet Curtains will always be made with approximately 2-3cm of the fabric above the eyelet to ensure a quality finish. Eyelet size: 4cm internal diameter. If you have a standard 28mm pole this will be fine. If you have a 35mm or 50mm pole, you will need to have larger eyelets. We must be informed at the time of ordering if your pole is thicker than 28mm.

Pencil Pleat Heading Information: Pencil Pleat Curtains will be made with 6 inch heading tape if the drop is longer than 150cm. If the drop is shorter than 150cm, we will contact you to advise that the heading tape should be 3 inch.

Pinch Pleat Heading Information: Pinch Pleat Curtains will be made with 6 inch heading tape if the drop is longer than 150cm. If the drop is shorter than 150cm, we will contact you to advise that the heading tape should be 3 inch.

Key Tips:

Consider the curtain heading type (eyelet, pinch pleat, etc.), as it might affect where you measure from.

Allow for some extra length if you want a more "puddled" look on the floor.

Always measure in at least three places as windows and floors may not be perfectly level or square.

How to Measure Your Windows for Roman Blinds:

Before You Start:

Use a metal tape measure for accuracy and make a note of your measurements in centimetres (cms)

Measuring Width:

If your roman blind is for a window which is yet to be plasterboarded, be sure to allow for the thickness of the board when you submit your measurements.

If your roman blind is for a bathroom which is yet to be tiled, be sure to allow for the tile thickness when you submit your measurements.

Inside Recess (If your blind is going inside the window recess):

Measure the inside width of the window at the top, middle, and bottom.

Use the narrowest width measurement. Take away 1-2cm so that the blind fits inside the recess. This is your ordering width.

Outside Recess (If your blind is going outside the window recess):

Measure the exact width you want the blind to be. Typically, add an extra 5-10cm on both sides of a window to block out light effectively.

Measuring Drop/Length:

Inside Recess:

Measure the drop from the top of the recess to the windowsill in three places.

Use the shortest drop measurement. Take away 1-2cms so that the blind does not gather on the window sill when it is fully lowered. This is your ordering drop.

Outside Recess:

Decide where you want your blinds to end (e.g., below the windowsill).

Measure from where the top of the blind will be to where the blind should finish. This is your ordering drop.

Key Tips:

Decide if it will be easier for you to access the control chain on the left or the right side. You can specify this when you place your roman blind order.

Always measure in at least three places for both width and drop as windows may not be perfectly square.

If in doubt, measure twice! Accurate measurements are key to a perfect fit.

Consider any obstructions like handles, wall tiles, switches which may get in the way of your blinds lowering fully.
